Top Dawg Entertainment To Produce ‘Black Panther: The Album’
Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith and his stable of killer musicians will be behind the music from and inspired by Marvel Studios’ Black Panther film.
Billboard Magazine’s Executive of the Year Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith is inching closer to his dream of ruling Hollywood like TDE does the music game, as the label will curate and produce Black Panther: The Album.
The lead single, “All The Stars,” featuring Kendrick Lamar and label mate SZA, has already gotten the project off to a strong start. Lamar and Tiffith will collaborate with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler in the creation of music specific to the needs of the film.
Marking the first time that Kung-Fu Kenny will write, produce, perform and curate music for a major motion picture — there is a lot riding on the success of this project. It is no secret that TDE is developing a film arm to its ever-expanding empire, so with the company inspired by the #BlackExcellence that is Black Panther, this is certainly on our must-hear list for 2018.
Lamar and TDE were handpicked by Coogler for this film music collaboration, a first for Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I am honored to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film,” Coogler said. “I can’t wait for the world to hear what Kendrick and TDE have in store.”
Top added, “Working on such a powerful movie is a great opportunity. We’re always working on new goals at TDE, so teaming up with Disney, Marvel Studios and the Black Panther film makes perfect sense.” As one of the most listened to and streamed artists in the world, Kendrick is regarded as one of the most important, critically acclaimed and creatively innovative artists around the world.
Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler, stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, and Danai Gurira, among others. The project is almost a month away, as the film will make its debut Feb. 16, 2018.
