Performed with a full orchestra, Sly5thAve comes back with another heat-rock of a project titled, The Invisible Man: An Orchestral Tribute To Dr. Dre.

Multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer Sly5thAve drops one of his most accomplished works to date, The Invisible Man: An Orchestral Tribute To Dr. Dre, featuring 23 arrangements of Dr. Dre’s iconic tracks with appearances from Jimetta Rose, Quantic, Cory Henry, Mark de Clive Lowe and more.

This record is the result of the “Cali-Love” concert put on by Sly5thAve in conjunction with the non-profit music charity, Playing For Change, to fund the construction of a music school in Compton, CA. Dr. Dre was in attendance and took to the stage to praise Sly5thAve’s work. One of the founding ideas behind the project was to keep the sound of the orchestra alive while preserving Dre’s musical legacy.

Inspired by Ralph Ellison’s book of the same title, Sly5thAve coined the LP “The Invisible Man” when he was touring and speaking to people about what was going on in the US. “Whether it was about racial discrimination, or gay rights, I was upset about all the police killings, Trump, everything. I thought more about how Dre’s early work was geared towards people who were ignored or forgotten. I wanted to contribute to the conversation that N.W.A. started and keep people talking about what’s going on politically to inspire some kind of change. This album speaks to what it means to be black and invisible in America, to what was going on then, and brings it full circle.”

On The Invisible Man, Sly repurposes the composition of legendary composer and arranger, David Axelrod, who Dre sampled with the help of Will “Quantic” Holland on guitar, this is a project that you should play on repeat and school the younglings to the truth.

This is arguably Sly5thAve’s best record to date, with an endorsement from the Doctor himself.

Stream the project below and keep an eye out for when Sly5thAve stops by your town.
