There was a ribbon cutting ceremony in the park, which is in Bedford-Stuyvesant, literally down the block from where Biggie grew up. At the ceremony was Tyanna Wallace, B.I.G.'s daughter, friend Lil Cease, and Councilman Robert Cornegy, who, for years has been trying to get Biggie memorialized in Brooklyn. (In 2013, Cornegy lead a failed effort to change the name of a corner in BK "Christopher Wallace Way.")

Cornegy once made a promise to Voletta Wallace, Biggie's mother, that he would get her son memorialized in BK. And he did.

In a statement, Cornegy said:

This community is under siege, as it relates to gentrification. I dont care who lives here, you come in this park, youre gonna have to know who Biggie Smalls was.

What makes this even cooler is that there is also $2.5 million in playground renovations taking place. This includes improvements to the handball courts, new playground equipment, new stairs and, improved landscaping.
