This year will mark the 20th anniversary of the seminal Blackstar album Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Blackstar.

So it's only fitting that Def, now known as Yasiin Bey, has announced that he and Talib Kweli will be bringing the rap duo back for a new album this year.

"New Black Star with Madlib, Talib Kweli, Yasiin, coming soon!" Bey said during a Madlib DJ set in Denver, Colorado. “All Madlib, all day. 2018, Madlib, Black Star. Madlib Black Star.”

The announcement, which was originally found by HipHopDX, was captured and uploaded by a Reddit user who attended the show.

"I just got back from a Madlib DJ set in Denver, and Yasiin Bey made a surprise appearance, and announced a Blackstar & Madlib album dropping in 2018 - he even mentioned it several times," the user, mellow tooth, wrote. "Yasiin showed up after performing elsewhere in Denver with Talib Kweli the same night."

The return of Blackstar is somewhat surprising considering Bey announced his retirement in 2016. And although Blackstar performed three Halloween shows together last year, nothing was announced in regards to the two working on a new album until now.

Recently, Kweli took to Instagram to share a picture of Bey, Kanye West, and Dave Chappelle all sitting at a table together writing notes.

"2018 is looking good," Kweli wrote in the caption. Following the post plenty of fans began to speculate that the picture hinted at a forthcoming Blackstar project. However, it's still unsure if the picture and this announcement are related.
