Killer Mike now has his very own “Killer Mike Day.”

Michael Render, better known to many as rapper Killer Mike, was honored with the proclamation on Monday. The honor is well-deserved considering Mike’s work as an artist, activist, and entrepreneur. Last year, he encouraged black people across the country to invest in black banks, ushering in the #BankBlack movement that resulted in an increase in membership for a number of banks.

“I respect you in so many ways,” Atlanta City Councilman Andre Dickens reportedly said. “You represent the ATL well.”

Prior to this, Mike received another honor from the city of Atlanta, when Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management decided to name a massive 400-foot-long tunnel-boring machine after him. Called “Driller Mike,” the machine will be used to dig a 5-mile tunnel starting from a 350-foot deep reservoir, holding 2.4 billion gallons of water under downtown Atlanta.

Although Killer Mike was honored that the machine was named after him, he said he was more than amused when he first heard the name Driller Mike.

“It was the funniest thing in the world to me. I didn’t take it seriously, because I’m a rapper. Cities don’t associate themselves with rappers. But I’m a business owner, a dad, an active member of politics in Atlanta, so I was honestly honored that people in Atlanta saw fit to name something after me.”
