Hova the God, Jay-Z, also known as Shawn Carter will be awarded the pre-Grammy Award by Clive Davis for his significant contributions to the music industry.

We are fast approaching the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be taking place at the “World’s Most Famous Arena,” Madison Square Garden, on Jan. 28, 2018. Before all that happens, audiophiles will be in for a treat as Clive Davis and the Recording Academy will present an award of distinction to Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter.

Detailed as the “Salute to Industry Icons,” this honor will go to Jay-Z for his “significant contributions to the music industry and his numerous philanthropic endeavors,” according to a press release from the Recording Academy. The invitation-only event will take place, Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at the Sheraton New York Times Square, preceding the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

Heralded as one of the music industry’s most prestigious events, the gala will follow in the long line of tradition in honoring industry luminaries.

“We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to honor Jay-Z with this year’s Grammy Salute to Industry Icons Award,” said Neil Portnow, President and CEO of the Recording Academy. “His contributions as an industry trailblazer and music visionary only begin to touch on the tremendous impact he’s made both in entertainment and beyond. Jay-Z also embodies the vibrant spirit of New York City and we couldn’t imagine a more fitting honoree as we return to Manhattan for this year’s Grammy Awards.”

Already a master songwriter who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Jay-Z is a 21-time Grammy Award winner and dominant force in pop culture. His brand is otherworldly strong, while he has dipped into other business such as spirits (Armand De Brignac), sports (Roc Nation Sports) and streaming services (TIDAL). In addition to all that, Carter has been active in the community, most notably through his Shawn Carter Foundation. Founded in 2002, Jay-Z has created a stable environment for those facing socio-economic hardships and helped to further their education.
