While much of the rap game remains in full “decode 4:44″ mode, Joey Badass is confident that he and the rest of his generation of rappers played an integral part in Jay-Z‘s mature redirection.

In a recent interview with MONTREALITY, the Bed-Stuy bomber tipped his hat to his hometown hero, recounting his first listen to the new album and noting how “it sounds just like the neighborhood.” He goes on to discuss why he believes his era, himself certainly included, influenced the album by beating Hov to a more politically sharp and transparent lens. For reference, Badmon’s own 2017 release, ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$, is soaked in dark realities and cold gospels of being a young black man in the states. Elsewhere in the interview, he asserts himself as a threat to the government for his role in educating young white people (the majority of his listeners) on the plight of POCs in the “Land of The Free.”
