Donald Glover's Next Childish Gambino Album May Be His Last
The renaissance man claims “Awaken, My Love!” to be his penultimate album
This past Saturday, Donald Glover‘s Governor’s Ball performance proved to the only non-Roots Picnic journey worthy of your envy. An increasingly rare appearance as Childish Gambino was capped off with a hint that it could soon be the end of the road for Glover’s beloved (though critically-tormented) musical persona.
Closing with the crowd favorite (now certified platinum) “Redbone,” Bino and the band get busy on the Bootsy-channeling ballad, charismatically gripping the mic to inform the crowd that he’d “see you for the last Gambino album.” Earlier in the show, he dedicated a performance of “Baby Boy” to his son, Legend (whose name had yet to be revealed.) Governor’s Ball was Glover’s first performance of the album since a New Years Day show in Australia and The PHAROS event at which “Awaken, My Love!” was debuted. The album is currently available on virtual reality vinyl and can be purchased via The Shop below.
Watch Donald Glover’s performance of “Redbone” and hold tight to see him on big and small screens galore with the second season of Atlana slated to arrive next year and dream-come-true film roles in upcoming Star Wars and The Lion King, as well as starring in Spider-man: Homecoming, which hits theaters July 7th.
