Childish Gambino is Selling Alternate Versions of "Awaken, My Love!" at Summer Pop-Ups

Yesterday in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Los Angeles and London, at four of Childish Gambino's five Summertime Starts Here pop-ups, fans were treated to free ice cream and an opportunity to purchase a copy of his P-Funk-forward album, "Awaken, My Love!" on vinyl.

But apparently, summertime actually starts with a big reveal. Copies sold at the events featured the title Operation Highjump with alternative artwork. Atlanta writer and "Awaken, My Love!" creative director, Ibra Ake, shared the images of the alternate vinyl packaging on Instagram (see below,) noting both the title and the cover were scrapped in the 11th hour. Today, the pop-up hits Los Angeles' Fairfax High School for a final run.

The pop-ups cap a big week for Glover and the Atlanta team, dominating Emmy nominations with 16 nods. Glover himself is nominated four times in three categories; Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his Saturday Night Live debut, and twice in Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, pitting "FUBU" and "Teddy Perkins" against one another.
