Chiho Feindler, Senior Director of Programs and Policy at VH1 Save The Music Foundation, said about the opportunity:

"We are thrilled to partner with the film Detroit so that we can help give students at Emerson K-8 School the opportunity to kick start their brand new band program."

Cast members from the movie Detroit were on the scene to present the school with the grant. This included Algee Smith, Leon Thomas, Malcolm David Kelley, and Joseph David-Jones.
