Questlove To Examine His Southern Roots On ‘Finding Your Roots’

The legendary Roots drummer, Questlove, will join Henry Louis Gates, Jr. in learning the name of his original African ancestors.

Entering into its fourth season, Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. has enabled entertainers, politicians and public figures to learn where their ancestors were from and detail their own history. For next week’s episode, airing Dec. 12, 2017, our own fearless leader, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson will dig into his Southern roots.

As slavery reshaped families both black and white, the Philadelphia native will learn the original name of his African ancestors in the astonishing tale of the Clotilda, the last known slave ship to arrive in the United States. According to the release, his third great-grandparents, smuggled into Alabama illegally months before the start of the Civil War, Quest’s history lesson is one to not miss.

Other entries include Dr. Phil McGraw and Charlayne Hunter-Gault who both learn that their families were on both sides of the racial coin in interesting and intriguing ways.
