Jon Bernthal will star as the show’s titular character, which is going to be a rude awakening for the Marvel Television Universe.

After making an impact on the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil, actor Jon Bernthal is back in his own series, The Punisher. With much hype in the air, Marvel and Netflix have finally let loose the trailer, which you can see below.

Picking up where Daredevil left off, Frank Castle (Bernthal) has survived the boat explosion. Unfortunately for the evildoers in the city, they don’t know that he did until it’s too late. Castle dons his classic gear and starts running the streets red with his prey’s blood.

Matter of fact, while Bernthal’s portrayal has been marked as the definitive, but he’s not the first. Adapted several times in the past, actors such as Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson have played the vigilante on the big screen. Bernthal’s Punisher is the first live action TV adaptation and arguably the best one ever.

The series will take audiences back into Castle’s past, showing the brutal moments that made the character into who he is today. Karen Page (Daredevil, The Defenders) will also have a significant role to play alongside newcomers like Micro, Billy Russo / Jigsaw (Ben Barnes) and others.

No word on if Vincent D’Ofrio’s Kingpin will make a return.

Punisher is the latest installment to the Marvel Television Universe, which most recently featured The Defenders. There’s no release date in mind for The Punisher.
