Did Kamala Harris Really Smoke Marijuana While Listening To Snoop Dogg And Tupac In College?
What began as a bizarre but amusing inquiry into Harris' listening habits while smoking weed in college has since turned into a story to discredit her.
During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, Kamala Harris discussed her time as a prosecutor, critiques of her blackness, her marriage to Douglas Emhoff and her stance on marijuana. But it's the latter topic that has captured people's interest, primarily because of a personal anecdote the Democratic presidential candidate shared related to marijuana.
"I believe we need to legalize marijuana. We need to move it on the schedule so that we can research the impact of weed based on a developing brain," Harris explained.
"I am absolutely in favor of legalizing marijuana, we've got to do it," she continued. "We have incarcerated so many — particularly young men and young men of color — in a way that we have not for the same level of use of other young men. And we've got to deal with that."
From there, she was asked if she had ever tried pot, to which she admitted she smoked a joint in college.
"I have, and I inhaled. It was a long time ago," Harris said. "I think that it gives a lot of people joy, and we need more joy in the world."
Prior to the interview wrapping up, co-host DJ Envy asks Harris whose music she listens to, but before she responds Charlamagne asks a question of her own. Here's how the exchange took place.

Kamala Harris: Oh yeah, definitely, Snoop. Uh huh, Tupac. For sure, for sure.
How the conversation comes across makes it seem as if Harris indirectly responded to Charlamagne's question, considering Envy only mentioned Snoop after Charlamagne's question.
The small exchange bithed a conspiracy theory about if Harris could've actually listened to either Snoop or Tupac while she was in college, beginning with the following tweet.

Harris graduated college from Howard University in 1986 and graduated from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, in 1989. She was then admitted to the State Bar of California in 1990 and served as a deputy district attorney in Alameda, County, California, from 1990 to 1998.
Snoop and Tupac's debut albums — Doggystyle and 2Pacalypse, respectively — dropped during the time in which Harris was a district attorney. Prior to that, Snoop was a part of a rap trip called 213 alongside Warren G and the late Nate Dogg. But 213 was first active in 1991. As for Tupac, he first started recording in 1987 but that was under the alias MC New York, the name he used when he was living in Baltimore.
Maybe the joint Harris had smoked left her so high that she was transported to a moment in the future where she heard the music of Snoop and Tupac before they even did. Nevertheless, whether it was just a miscommunication or a mistake made by Harris, this wasn't something to be taken seriously. Until it was.
The story was then used as a way of accusing her of pandering and discrediting her as a politician by people on social media.

Some went further and implied that she was smoking marijuana while she was a deputy district attorney, considering it was around this time that Snoop and Tupac had released their debut albums.

From there, Ian Sams, Harris' spokesman, spoke out on it.

Okayplayer has reached out to Harris' campaign for clarification on the exchange between Harris, Envy and Charlamagne.
But it should go without saying that something so trivial shouldn't be used against Harris, and if people have really lost even the smallest inkling of support of her because of it, they should really reevaluate what they want out of a politician. Also, for futute reference Kamala — just say Too Short. Not only did he have albums out by the time you were in college but you're both from Oakland.
