HBO Officially Confirms 'True Detective' Season 3 With Mahershala Ali
Mahershala Ali will be portraying police detective Wayne Hays in the forthcoming third season of True Detective.
Earlier this year came news that Mahershala Ali was in talks to star in the third season of HBO’s True Detective with the confirmation coming about a month later. Now, HBO has offered some details on who Ali will be portraying now that the show has been greenlit.
The Hidden Figures and Moonlight actor will be portraying police detective Wayne Hays in the series. Hays is from Northwest Arkansas and fights crime in the nearby Ozarks. As with its predecessors, the third season of True Detective will be set across different narrative timelines.
Creator and original showrunner Nic Pizzolatto will once again write all the episodes, as well as direct alongside Green Room director Jeremy Saulnier.
“I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy,” Pizzolatto said to Variety. “I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story.”
“Nic has written truly remarkable scripts,” Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of programming, added. “With his ambitious vision and Mahershala Ali and Jeremy Saulnier aboard, we are excited to embark on the next installment of True Detective.”
The third season of True Detective does not currently have an air date, nor is there a set date for the start of production.
