Gabrielle Union refuses to be diminished to just “Dwyane Wade’s wife” in a headline, especially after a major accomplishment that benefits the city she calls home.

Yesterday, a local Miami news station celebrated the $200,000 donation between Miami Heat NBA star Dwyane Wade and his actress-wife Gabrielle Union to the March For Our Lives gun control rally. But instead of giving them both equal shine time, the news station referred to Gabrielle in a tweet as just “Dwyane Wade’s wife” in the headline.

Gabrielle Union, a Women’s Rights activist and a pretty solid black woman who fights for causes both big and small, rightfully so did not appreciate being subsidized and immediately responded to the tweet, saying, “When they let you know what they think of you. I have a name.” A name and a strong social reach, as fans then flooded WSVN’s Twitter page with comments in support of Union.

A woman who was successful before she even began a relationship with Wade.

To WSVN’s credit, they didn’t shy away from the chin-check, nor did they delete the tweet in an attempt to displace blame. The news station replied to almost every comment and issued apologies.
