It’s A Family Thang As Jessie T. Usher Will Play The Lead In ‘Son of Shaft’
The Independence Day: Resurgence star will play the progeny of Detective John Shaft in director Tim Story’s Shaft reboot.
Coming this fall, that bad mutha (shut yo’ mouth) is back and badder than ever, as New Line and director Tim Story are bringing Shaft back to the big screen. On a script written by Kenya Barris (Black-ish, Girls Trip) — Son of Shaft will star Jessie T. Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence) as the progeny of detective John Shaft.
Samuel L. Jackson is also negotiating a deal to reprise his role of Shaft that he played in the John Singleton-directed reboot of the action classic. Making matters equally interesting is the news that Richard Roundtree, the original Shaft, will return as the great uncle who would risk his neck for his brother man.
Usher, whose biggest role to date came in Independence Day: Resurgence, returns as the lead of the Starz series Survivor’s Remorse, with the fourth season beginning Aug. 20. He will play the son of the detective, who, after long being estranged from his father, finds himself teamed up with him. An FBI agent and an expert in cyber terrorism, Son of Shaft marks the partnership between old school and new school.
There’s no release date in mind, yet, but production is scheduled to start this fall.
