Thanks to Drake, Netflix Orders A New Season of “Top Boy”
The popular British crime drama, Top Boy, will return to Netflix as a new 10-part season to premiere in 2019.
Top Boy is an incredibly gritty, impactful show set in London’s East End. If you haven’t seen this show yet, both seasons are available to stream on Netflix. Not without its issues, every time the show would air, Channel 4 would threaten to not bring the show back. After the events of Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully (Kane Robinson) in S2, we were left with a major cliffhanger and no promise of an answer.
That is until Drake entered into the picture.
The OVO force has made it no secret that he is a major fan of the British crime drama, and has convinced the popular binge-watching service, Netflix, to bring the show back for 2019. According to The Hollywood Reporter cover story featuring the Toronto superstar, Drake got the original creative team — Charles Steel and Alasdair Flind, Ronan Bennett and Yann Demange — who will executive produce the series.
Along with Drake and his business partner, Adel “Future” Nur, SpringHill Entertainment’s own Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson have also signed on to executive produce. “We couldn’t be more excited for Netflix members around the world and a new generation of fans to discover the authentic, raw and real world of Top Boy,” Cindy Holland, Vice President, Original Content for Netflix, said. “Drake came to us several months ago with a passion to help bring this series back to life, and we’re thrilled to support the original creative team to do just that.”
