‘Creed 2’ Adds Real-Life Boxer Florian “Big Nasty” Munteanu As Ivan Drago’s Son
Creed 2 continues the trend of adding real-life boxers into the Rocky franchise as Florian “Big Nasty” Munteanu will play Ivan Drago’s son.
Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan have another highly anticipated project on their hands (and it’s not Black Panther). Creed 2 is nearing completion and a new update from Sylvester Stallone means big things to come.
According to Variety, the actor-director who originated the role of Rocky has announced the casting of the son of his arch-nemesis Ivan “I Must Break You” Drago. Romanian boxer Florian “Big Nasty” Munteanu will play Ivan Drago’s offspring in the Creed sequel.
“Congratulations to Florian “Big Nasty” Munteanu for getting the part as Ivan Drago’s son! 27-years-old, 6-feet-four, 245 pounds of talent. #MGM #Creed #Creed2.” Sly posted on his Instagram.
The casting marks the professional boxer’s acting debut.
His addition to the Creed 2 cast keeps with the trend of adding real-life boxers into the Rocky franchise. Previous films had Andre Ward (Creed), Tommy Morrison (Rocky V), Tony Bellew (Creed’s main antagonist) and Antonio Tarver (Rocky Balboa) as opponents against the fighting prides of Philadelphia.
With Drago’s son in the mix, it seems we will get the revenge match we’ve all been waiting for—Drago killed Adonis Creed’s father, Apollo—and the stakes will be high. There’s no word yet on just how big of a role Munteanu will play, but it’d be no surprise if he ends up in the ring with Jordan.
