For more than 20 years, Boots Riley has been one of hip-hop’s greatest storytellers. (If you don’t believe us, listen to “Me and Jesus the Pimp in a ’79 Granada Last Night.”) Now it looks like the lead rapper of The Coup is taking his storytelling abilities to another medium.

Yesterday Deadline broke the news that Boots Riley will be directing his first film. The movie will be a drama called Sorry to Bother You, which was also the title of the last album The Coup put out, all the way back in 2012.

Here is how the movie was described to Deadline:

“‘A black telemarketer with self-esteem issues’ who ‘discovers a magical key to business success, propelling him to the upper echelons of the hierarchy just as his activist comrades are rising up against unjust labor practices. When he uncovers the macabre secret of his corporate overlords, he must decide whether to stand up or sell out.’”

Riley’s movie is going to have some star power behind it; Tessa Thompson, Lakeith Stanfield, and Steven Yeun are all set to star in Sorry to Bother You, which will start shooting later this month in Oakland, California.
