Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. of Georgia State University to Hold A Wakanda-Themed Black & Gold Pageant
Black Panther continues to inspire all the “black and beautiful” vibes as the Alphas of Georgia State University are proving Wakanda is forever!
Black Panther is not only a billion-dollar box office juggernaut, but it has reinvigorated the spirits of black-and-brown people all around the world. Creatives everywhere are inspired by the success and stature of the Marvel superhero film and have begun expressing their exuberance in memes (#MBakuChallenge) and business projects (#TeamShuri doll).
In this case, a group of black Greek organizations such as the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated are putting a twist on their annual Miss Black & Gold Pageant by taking us all to Wakanda. The Zeta Mu chapter at Georgia State University has asked their contestants to dress in their African best for this Wakanda-based experience, according to Watch The Yard.
Titled “Wakanda PHorever,” each contestant looks absolutely breathtaking with their Black Panther-themed costumes, face makeup and accessories. Camryn Bradley’s VizuaHub did the graphics and photography for the contestant photoshoot, which you can see for yourself below, and judging by the shots — you might have a hard time crowning a Miss Black & Gold this year.
The 12 contestants are Ladijah Bryant, Mikaiya Booth, Aderonke Adeyemi, Moya Leung, Bree Buxton, Sadiyah Al Nur, Taylor Carmack, Maya Jenkins, Jaquila Butler, Nicole Morris, Geo Jenkins and Seyi Fasan.
For those interested in going or in the Georgia State University area, this year’s Miss Black & Gold Pageant will take place at the school’s Student Center Ballroom on April 21.
