Honestly, this is one of the rare times, where I wish I didn’t have to write a review. The reason being that Fermented Spirits, a duo of Haj, and MicheleQJ, have amazing intentions, so naturally I want to root for them, but unfortunately, the execution is far less than stellar.

Santogold
(Downtown : 2008)

It’s too soon to say for sure, but it’s likely that future musicologists will look back upon the work of Santogold and grant her the title of missing link between M.I.A., Gwen Stefani, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Gleaning the best elements from each of the aforementioned artists, frontwoman Santi White and her former Stiffed bandmate John Hill have created a fresh, genre-twisting journey of an album with their self-titled...

UK Grime MC Dizzee Rascal, easily the underground genre’s most popular act, has come a long way since his 2003 debut LP, Boy In Da Corner. While that critically acclaimed record achieved moderate commercial success, the American audience found the accessibility of the vastly different rhythms (from traditional Hip Hop) and Dizee’s heavily accented rhyme patterns elusive. With his third and most accessible release to date, Maths +...

The continued nostalgia for all things New Wave yields the domestic release of the compilation B.I.P.P.P.: French Synth Wave 1979-85. The thirteen tracks represent a quality gathering of several obscure acts and their hits that never were, but one that will likely find a great deal of resonance in a time when New Wave, No Wave, Italo Disco, and various other 1980s electro-influenced sub-genre are experiencing a resurgence of...

Lounge music and exotica records have thrilled music fans and audiophiles alike for their interesting techniques of enticing the listener with sensual sounds meant to exite the mind and ones stereo system.  While many of these albums have become the reason thousands of cratediggers browse through thrift stores and yard sales, either to listen and recapture those feelings or for sample raiding, there has been room for younger artists...

It's obvious at this point that the whole indie-dance-pop scene has exploded with no end in sight. Gaudy synths and upbeat melodies mixed with vocals harkening back to the 1980s and late '70s are becoming "in" again. To stand out amongst the crowd, a band or artist must find a way to meander the line of parody and artistic integrity. One group, Casxio, is doing just that.
