The Piece Talks
(Tres Records : 2008)

Making good music is best done effortlessly. If you have to strain or reach to create most times its best to leave it alone. That's probably what makes The Piece Talks work for me, the ease with which Blu and Ta'Raach put together a quality album.

So much of today’s retro-minded music begs one simple question: what’s the point? Most funk revival albums fall into that category. Sure, it’s great that you can still see this stuff performed live, but when it comes to an album, why listen to someone’s homage when the genuine article still sounds so good today? Across genres, sounding like the classics is often a great way to compete with one’s contemporaries,...

Drawing inspiration from these two diametrically opposed locales emerged PPT, an eclectic Hip-Hop group that is on some other. Members Professor Pyke, C.L. Pasio III, and Seth Garphunkle may have an eye trained on the UK, but have clearly...

Give In Let Go

Considering the prevalence of signed "artists" who often don't have much to bring to the table besides a nice voice, it is not only refreshing but damn impressive when we come across true musicians doing their thing. Artists in the true sense of the word, that don't learn music, but create it, like composer, producer and vocalist, Cava Menzies.

A stroke of genius is not complicated. It can be just common sense. For turntable stallion, J. Period, compiling a mixtape of Mary J. Blige classic cuts, exclusive remixes, and interview excerpts was an obvious must-do. Yet, for long time fans of the R&B diva, The Best of Mary J. Blige is pure brilliance.
