The 2008 Afro-Punk Festival came to a glorious close over the weekend with its main stage concert at Fort Greene Park and Block Party on Clinton Avenue. Saturday's free concert featured an eclectic mix of rock, soul and punk with performances by Sophia Ramos, Little Jackie, Tamar-kali and The Dirtbombs.  Sunday brought The Carps, J*Davey and Kudu.

"The New West Movement"- this is a term that gets thrown around a lot these days to categorize all of the young and up-and-coming talent out of that region. In reality, this movement isn't new at all. High quality Hip-Hop has always been a part of Cali's music scene, and the rest of the world is just now catching up. You can argue about when it began and who is included in it, but...

It was my master plan to write about the awesome Afro-Punk films altogether later in the week, but the New York City premiere of I'm Through with White Girls (The Inevitable Undoing of Jay Brooks), written by Courtney Lilly, made me change my mind. A romantic comedy that's not as centered around the title as you may think, "I'm Through with White Girls" is a literate tale of two misfits...
