Skillz - The Million Dollar Backpack - In Stores Now!!

Posted by dantana on

It's Skillz day on Okayplayer and honestly, we couldn't be more proud of the man. Skillz had a banner year in 2007 from performing classics (including his own) alongside Big Daddy Kane, MC Lyte, and Black Thought for VH1's Hip-Hop Honors Tour. His annual "Rap Up" was the most anticipated yet and even came with a video from Chris Robinson. He continues to tour the Globe countless times over rocking parties with the Magnificent DJ Jazzy Jeff. Somewhere in the midst of all that he managed to drop a mixtape with Mick Boogie and record an album called The Million Dollare Backpack which is officially out TODAY. The album features Common, Talib Kweli, Freeway, and The Roots with production by Jake One, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Bink Dog, Kwame, Khari Ferrari, ?uestlove, and more.

We just published OKP's latest interview with Skillz.  Be sure to peep that throwback we pulled out of the photo archives to remind you guys just how long this cat has been in the game and that he's never stopped or looked back, ever. Support the realness!

I know Okayplayer loves Skillz and I got much respect for him and how long he been in the game. BUT....I heard this album and I got say I was not impressed. Skillz does MORE name dropping than the Game. And that is saying A LOT!! And what is up with the recycled metaphors. He mentions Young Jeezy's adlibs on more than one track. Is he in love with Jeezy? I'm not hating, really I'm not. Okayplayer has steered me in the right direction when it comes to music on several occasions (most recently Jean Grae..Jeanius...BANANAS!!!). I got to say though, yall dropped the ball on promoting this one. Not feeling it.
