Circa 91-92, and straight from FSD, this is Common Sense's demo tape that got him in The Source Magazines' Unsigned Hype column. No ID is said to confirm this.
In other Common related news, while it seems very premature to even be talking about it while we wait for Universal Mind Control (which we found out has been been moved to a 12/9 street date), word has it that Com's album to FOLLOW U.M.C. (his 9nth to date) will be produced by No ID and Kanye West. So for those of you hatin' on all the recent Pharell production, you have something to look forward to.
We've talked at length about this song and video already and after getting a preview a few weeks back, we now the full version for Common's "Universal Mind Control" featuring Pharrell. The video was directed by Hype Williams and is equipped with video game type scenery, a dancing Robot, and a few other images I can't wrap my brain around. Common's LP Universal Mind Control is in stores November 11th.
The Digital Youth Network caught up with Common at his Common Ground Foundation Fundraiser last month. Com speaks on the importance of supporting programs like DYN, a Chicago based media initiative that works with middle and high school students to help them excel in all media outlets. Later today or tomorrow, we'll be posting our wrap up of the Common and N.E.R.D. show that hit NY this past weekend.
Every August, some of hip hop's finest gather in NYC for the Black August Festival, celebrating the lives and work of slain African American activists and prisoners through hip hop performances. Let's Get Free: The Black August Hip Hop Project is a new documentary film covering the Black August movement, featuring performance and interview footage from Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, dead prez and more. Shout to Tunji for this.
While in Seattle for his tour with N.E.R.D., Common stopped by Sound Session with J. Moore and DJ Hyphen. In the interview they talk about Com's upcoming Universal Mind Control album, his creative process working with The Neptunes, his upcoming movie roles, his classic catalog, the presidential election and more. Shout out to Hyphen for this one.
We're over here patiently waiting for that Common and N.E.R.D.tour to hit NYC . For now we have another vid of Common and Pharrell performing "The Eye" off of Com's upcoming album Universal Mind Control at the L.A. stop of their tour. UMC in stores this November.
We know how much you guys love some new Common content. Via nah right here's a video of Common performing in Houston last night with Pharrell. The song is labeled as "There's Nothing You Can Do" but sounds to me like the song we posted awhile back called "Gladiator" (the youtube clip was removed). Either way, it's dope. Another bit of news we received is that Common's album is now titled Universal Mind Control and not Invincible Summer. It is rumored to be dropping in November.
A lot of y'all (myself included) were feelin the video for "Announcement" by Common feat. Pharrell. Today we get a sneak preview of the video for "Universal Mind Control (U.M.C.)" by Common and Pharrell. It took a long time but this song did grow on me. From the brief clip we get, the video looks like some space age futuristic ish just like you would expect with a beat like that. No word yet on when the full length video will be out, but we of course, will be posting it here.
Hip-Hop fans have really been spoiled with some real good tours this year. From Erykah Badu's Vortex tour with The Roots, Kanye's Glow In The Dark Tour, Rock The Bells and now "Seeing The Invincible Sounds Of Summer Tour." Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like, Common and N.E.R.D. Details are a little sketchy at the moment but we do know the tour will kick off in September with three dates confirmed so far (Miami, Atlanta and Denver). UPDATE: Just added the current complete tour dates list after the jump. I hear there are still more to come, we'll hit you with those when we get them.
