Andre 3015 Limelight Mixtape Cover1

Where were you the first time you heard the words "International underground thunder pounds when I stomp the ground"? For decades how Andre 3000 has given us line after line after line of hip-hop gold, and as time passes it seems his body of work only sounds better with age. After Outkast ripped the 2014 festival circuit in half and Mr. Benjamin himself stepped into the role of Jimi Hendrix, this all-Andre 3 Stacks mix from DJ Limelight is a thing of timely beauty.

Limelight has put in serious work on this one, chopping the greatest of 3000's moments into a mix that rises and falls in all the right places on its path through ATL hip-hop history. The "Elevators" remix. The Joe Simon sample on "So Fresh, So Clean." The "International Players Anthem"--all the classics become tools for Limelight's expert sonic construction. This is the kind of concentrated, artistic mixing that Mixtape Monday digs the most.

Record Breakin Music Sound Traveler Mecca Mixtape Cover

Record Breakin' Music's DJ Junior has delivered another batch of diligent selections with his newest edition of the Sound Traveler mixtape series. Heavy on the atmospherics, saccharine synth lines and cooled-out verses, the mix has been dubbed Mecca:83. "The artists featured on this mix are people I consider family," he told Okayplayer in an email. "They're artists I will rep regardless of how much/little hype they have or which label they record for. Over the past few years many of them have also become my personal friends." Rather than load up on some of the more obvious bangers of today and yesteryear, Mecca:83 sheds light on the heat that you might be sleeping on. We owe Junior many thanks for the turn on to Redefinition's new "Bahia Affair," and for reminding us just how dope Jon Rogers "For You" is. Slide into something comfortable and prepare for Sound Traveling.

Tracklist:

REdefinition - "Bahia Affair feat Nardo Says" (Expansions Collective)

Giorgio Oehlers - "No Heart Feelings" (CDr)

Extra Medium - "No Thy Self feat Miles Bonny & John Robinson" (RecordBreakin)

Maximoe - "One For Ahmad" (Expansions Collective)

Dutchy - "Dedicado!" (Expansions Collective)

Jon Rogers - "For You" (Expansions Collective)

Simon S - "Black Bounce" (Futuristica Music)

Alexis Davis - "The Lift" (Expansions Collective)

Giorgio Oehlers - "Trip To The Stars" (CDr)

Mecca:83 - "The Inbetween" (Expansions Collective)

DOC Mastermind - "Don't Turn Your Back on your homies" (CDr)

Dagmxy - "ASA" (Expansions Collective)

House Shoes LA Mixtape Cover

House Shoes brought some brand new mix stylings to the left coast last month, and the evidence of his work has finally made it from his decks to our ears. Shoes's set unfurls with the gorgeous "You Can Do Better Than Drums" from LA producer DertBeats. From that point on things stay cinematic and the flavor shifts from spacey to bedrock-banging as only House can shift it. Our weeks will always have time for the LA-living Detroit tiger.

Moroka Mix Cover 640w

This one's a love letter from our cohorts at Okayafrica. British-South African producer Moroka compiled a devout tribute mix to his homeland late last month, and now The Gospel of Kwaito is here, singing praises. Full of gospel songs recalled from his South African youth, Moroka's mix is heavy on the soaring hymns but still packs plenty of guitar-driven SA bounce. Kwaito told Okayafrica "Growing up in South Africa, I was surrounded by sounds of African gospel and traditional song where the music is transmitted as a joyous soundtrack to weddings, funerals, protests and communal gatherings," and you can read the full lowdown over at our sister site.

The Large 2 On Dancehall Mix Cover

Blessed with the moniker of her favorite summer cut, 2 On comes straight from the large aka Suze aka one of our favorite dancehall selectors. Cuts new and old, exclusive and well-worn make their appearance in Suze's island-minded set, which fittingly includes a rework of Tinashe's club-wrecker smack dab in its midsection along with an absurd Tony Goods remix of Bey's "Partition," Mavado and more. Gwaan push play before this reggaedubdancehallneosoca burner blazes by.

Tracklist:

Murlo & Gemma Dunleavy - "Jasmine [forthcoming Mixpak]"

MJ Cole - "Crazy Love (Murlo edit)"

Vybz Kartel - "Miami Vice Episode"

Kranium - "Nobody Haffi Now"

Mavado - "Tie Yuh"

Popcaan - "Fall in Love"

Deebuzz & Skarra Mucci - "Bubbler"

Agent Sasco - "Hear Mi Nuh"

Ward 21 - "Spot The J"

Demarco - "Gyal Anthem"

Konshens - "Caribbean Party"

I Octane - "Hot Spot"

T Pain - "Up Down (Dj Septik remix)"

Rizzla - "Paranoid Dembow"

Cassie - "Me & U (Samrai remix)"

Tinashe x Jubilee - "2 On JMZ (Four Color Zack remix)"

Leftside - "Wickedest Wine"

Shatta Wale - "Mamobi"

Smutlee - "Igloo Riddim"

Beyonce - "Partition (Tony Goods remix)"

Joey B - "Tonga"

Bunji Garlin - "Carnival Tabanca"

Henry King - "Olopa"

Drippin - "Air Jordans"

Baglady - "Fire"

Wildlife! - "Whoah (forthcoming Mixpak)"

Sofie NTS Radio

We're very happy to present a newcomer to the #MixtapeMonday scene by the name of Sofie Fatouretchi, who in addition to heading up Boiler Room's LA operations is steadily amassing a mighty array of slightly-chilled mixes that recall the smokey backroom afterparties of your big city hip-hop dreams. Her latest, dubbed SOS Radio is flush with RBL Posse, Jayo Felony and Swarvy, packing a dark and subtle atmosphere that has us feeling right on this rainy Monday. Keep fingers crossed for more from sofie. in the near future--we're already doing the same.

DJ Rashad Hayes Pulse Mixtape Cover

Keeping things sufficiently straight is NYC's own DJ Rashad Hayes. His latest, The Pulse 2014, is a surefire club-pleaser that features assist work from Suss One and DJ Clue. Goods from Drake, Dej Loaf, Hov and more make this here pulse a proper piece of turn up material. Even though we at Okayplayer are surely guilty of spending a little too much time relaxing at the crib, we've been known to hit the club in full force and the next time we do, we hope it's sounding something like this.

Brett Klassen StudyTape cover

Another newcomer is making an an appearance on this week's mixtape roundup. Ontario-based producer, MC, spoken word artist and student Brett Klassen has made a set designed for easy studying and note taking. Full of many of OKP favorites as well as lesser-known greats--we see you, Snarky Puppy--the mix is a surprisingly fluid batch of cuts that will help get library-dwellers through their fall midterms, even if their heads are involuntarily nodding as they work. Anytime Brian Eno rubs shoulders with Blood Orange it's a victory as far as we're concerned.

And finally, a bit of local Brooklyn fire. Williamsburg is lucky to host the regular afro-latin-hip-hop throwdown iBomba brings some of the most fiery in all the world to club Bembe for roof-blowing evenings on the regular. New Dutty Artz memberSelectra K7 recently brought his skills to Bembe, and the result was a glorious set of globe-trotting dance music. Relive the moment (or get into it for the first time) thanks to the good people at work behind the iBomba scenes and stay satisfied until next week when we'll be back with more mix magic. Mixtape Monday is signing off--keep on moving to it, y'all.
